Vine Crest Learn (VCLearn)
Operations console for Vine Crest Schools — official term cards issued in-product, with launch targets on educator adoption, time-to-publish, and student portal reach.
The Challenge
Term report cards were becoming visible as soon as enrollments existed and a semester ended — incomplete cards, uneven access, and no operator control over when families could see results. Staff needed one role-aware console for learners, teachers, and admins instead of stitching grades across tools.
Methodical Approach
Report-card-first launch
Feature flags kept assessments, submissions, and class management off until the viewing path was trustworthy — report cards, terms, and role-aware dashboards first.
One console, four roles
Admin, teacher, student, and superuser share the same SPA. Permissions and navigation follow the signed-in role instead of separate apps.
Publish only when complete
Term publish is blocked until every learner has a complete card. Staff get a fix-issues flow; the API rejects publish in the same state.

VCLearn is the learning and operations product behind Vine Crest Learn. The Django backend (registrar for identity, vclearn for academic records) serves a webpack-bundled React SPA — not a marketing site with a CMS bolted on.
What shipped is specific: report-card viewing and editing with CA/exam scores that distinguish “not entered” from zero; bulk term PDF zips prepared on a worker; profile photos with crop; and a read-only superuser masquerade so support can see another person’s console without writing data. Assessments, file uploads, and class management exist in the codebase and stay behind flags until an environment turns them on.
